Glasses for Petite Faces

When you have a small or petite face, it is crucial you find glasses that don’t cover your face, rather emphasize your best features, and reflect your style and personality. At Alexander Daas, we understand the problem you face when searching for a pair of stylish glasses that flatter your petite face.

The lack of glasses options for those with small faces means most people resort to buying frames that look too big for your face. Although many petite-faced people resort to children’s frames, wearing them can often result in pain.

In finding the correct size of glasses for small faces, you have to learn the size of your current frame. Simply read the numbers printed on the temples of your glasses and look for frames in the same size. You’ll know a frame fits you well when your eyes center in the frame, and the width of your face and the frame have a similar size, with the bridge sitting on your nose comfortably. You can use this general calculation for your frame size:

Frame Size = Eye size + Bridge size

Example: 45mm+23mm=68mm

  • Very narrow: less than 65mm
  • Narrow: 66mm – 67mm
  • Medium: 68mm-70mm
  • Wide: 70mm-73mm
  • Very Wide: more than 74mm

Considering your small fit, we have created a collection of glasses for petite faces. Our narrow fit frames are hands down one of your best options when it comes to glasses for small faces.

Our glasses were made to fit stylish men and women with narrow faces perfectly. From metal to acetate, you’ll find frames that will best suit not only your face but personality. You’ll also find top designer brands like Celine, Garrett Leight, Mykita, and Dior. We’ve gathered some of our best selling glasses for small faces below.

Alexander Daas Compassion

This captivating frame has a classic rectangular shape and unique color combination. Featuring a blend of dark tortoiseshell on the outside, and a prominent blue color underneath, this ultra-cool duality creates a subtle statement.

Alexander Daas Potrero

If you’re aiming for a geek-chic look, then your search is over with the Alexander Daas Potrero eyeglasses. Featuring round lenses, a unique keyhole bridge, and a black/grey marble print, this retro vintage style eyeglass is the perfect frame for your petite small face.

Alexander Daas St. Margherita

They say you’ll never go wrong with a little black dress. We’ve got our own version of the little black dress, with a staple black glasses look. It’s no wonder why this classic all black frame is one of our best selling glasses for petite faces. This black frame will flatter different skin tones and different looks.

Oversized Glasses for Petite Faces

The time has come to debunk the stereotype. Oversized means “too big” with no particular measurement and size, it’s merely about what looks oversized in proportion to your face. This means oversized glasses for your small face might not be oversized for someone else.

The best way to find the right oversized glasses for small faces is to ensure a proper nose fit and right proportion to your face.

This is just a sneak look at some of our options for petite, small faces at Alexander Daas. Not only do we have our line of lenses for delicate faces (like above) but we also have some top designer brands in the industry from which you can choose.

We hope these tips have provided you with helpful information on your quest for the perfect glasses for petite faces. Remember, it’s not only about looking for small glasses, but finding the perfect shape and color that compliments your style, needs and complexion.

The Ultimate Guide: Finding The Best Eyewear for Your Face Shape

With the many glasses sold both online and in stores, how do you find the perfect and most flattering style for your face? Do you ever wonder why some eyeglasses look attractive on display, but a bit off when you try them? It could be that the eyeglass frames are the wrong style for your face type.

There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing the right glasses for yourself. Face complexion, your eye color, and most importantly, your face shape, are all important. Knowing which frame style can flatter and enhance the unique features of your face plays a tremendous role in determining whether a specific glasses style will look good on you. Most of the time, finding the right frame of glasses can be a challenging task. But don’t fret, we’ve got your back to find the perfect pair with the ultimate guide to finding the best eyewear for your face shape.

Every face is different. Below are some simple tips to help you determine which frames will look best on different face shapes. Though these tips will help you discover which eyeglass styles could best compliment your shape, there are always exceptions to the rule. Regardless of the style you pick, if you love it and feel great about it, it might just be the style for you.

Find Your Face Shape

Square Face Shape

The bold features of a square face naturally make you a head-turner with the width and length roughly of the same proportions. A strong horizontal jawline and a broad forehead give you a distinctive look. Looking to elongate your face? Try narrow, round or oval frame styles that have more width than depth. Choose semi-rimless frames to help accentuate your eyes and create a playful balance to your well-defined jawline. Enhance your angles and don’t be afraid to experiment with thin and curved eyeglass frames like cat-eye styles. Avoid most geometric, square shapes and light-colored frames.

Round Face Shape

Round face shapes are characterized by soft and feminine curvy features, with width and length in the same proportions and less defined angles. Round faces have naturally youthful features which can be complemented by contrasting geometric eyeglasses. Look for wide, square or striking rectangular shaped styles with a transparent bridge and thinner frames. This will add length and elongate your baby face. Avoid wearing small and short frames with round lenses. Whether you’re going for a trip to the beach or going for a short walk, the perfect glasses for round faces include geometric shapes like Wayfarers. Rectangle shaped frames will help create an illusion of having a more extended and thinner look. So, it’s game on: offset your contour game and confidently show off a more edgy style!

Oval Face Shape

Oval faces are the ideal face shape for its balanced proportions. You can wear any eyeglass style you want with full confidence, with great flexibility in shape, color, or print. Play with a variety of textures and angles to find your true style. Frames that are equal to or larger than the fullest part of your face are optimal. Rectangle frames are most often the go-to frame shapes because of their horizontal orientation that can balance the vertical features of oval face shapes. Seize the opportunity to wear different glasses styles that will enhance and accentuate your best features.

Oblong Face Shape

Oblong faces shapes are also referred to as rectangular face shapes. Characterized by having an elongated and narrow face shape with very few angles, you may also have a long, straight cheek line. Create an illusion of a shorter and more balanced face shape by trying frames that can add width to your face. Avoid wearing small framed glasses, and opt for a pair of oversized sunglasses, even playing with thick frames.

Frames with decorative or contrasting temples also work well for oblong face shapes, including sunglasses that have deep lenses. The bold and sharp angles and lines will give oblong faces an edge, contrasting its soft features.

Diamond Face Shape

A diamond-shaped face is characterized by a narrow jawline and forehead with a dramatic and broad cheekbone as the widest part of the face. This is said to be the rarest face shape. To highlight the eyes and soften the cheekbones,  opt for frames that have detailing or distinctive brow lines. Rimless eyeglasses and frames with oval or cat-eye shapes can also be good choices. While oval and rimless frames will help compliment wide or high cheekbones, steer away from narrow or thin frames and shapes that overpower your cheekbones.

Heart Face Shape

Sometimes called a base-up triangle face shape, you likely have a broad forehead and high cheekbones with  a well-defined and narrow chin. You can create a more balanced, elongated look with the right pair of frames.

Direct the attention downward to elongate the face by wearing thin frames with wide lower edges and less straight lines. Go for a playful look with thin and light-colored oval or round shaped glasses that are rimless and have a light, airy appearance. Cat-eye styles or glasses that feature rounded edges are also good choices to enhance the face symmetry. This will give the wearer a more balanced look. Try to avoid dark frames with top-heavy styles or decorative designs.

Now that you’ve discovered your face shape and the best frames that look great, consider functionality when choosing your glasses. Choose a pair that doesn’t only make you look stylish, but that will fit well and provide complete eyewear protection.

If you have an eye problem or you want to protect your eyes from the UV rays, functionality is vital. To prevent eye pain when reading, it’s also best that you consider practicality when choosing your prescription eyeglasses, prescription sunglasses or regular sunglasses.

Visit the Alexander Daas optical store in Los Angeles and ask for an eyewear stylist to help find the best glasses for your face shape. We can also customize your lenses according to your eye needs.

You Own 20 Pairs of Shoes and Only 1 Pair of Glasses? What Do People Look At First, Your Feet or Your Face?

Fifteen to twenty years ago, we launched a campaign for our store in San Francisco (San Francisco Optics), running ads with it in local San Francisco newspapers and publications like San Francisco Bay Guardian, SF Weekly and the San Francisco Chronicle.

You Own 20 Pairs of Shoes and Only 1 Pair of Glasses?
What Do People Look At First, Your Feet or Your Face?
I mean, it makes sense, right??!!

About two years ago, we relaunched this campaign:

Photo: Wearing ALEXANDER DAAS sunglass style Portofino

Now, in the age of social media with platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, we were pleasantly surprised to see our creative work go viral, being shared all over the place with tons of comments and likes. Many of the shared versions had our ALEXANDER DAAS logo and #StyledByDaas hashtag cropped or edited out, but we were still happy to see the message going around.

It seems our ad has resurfaced and we are excited to see it go viral again with it’s 3rd act. A special thank you to one of our ALEXANDER DAAS authorized dealers in Juno Beach, Florida – Juno Beach Optical – and their amazing Licensed Optician, Micki Lorelli, for sharing this blurb about the ad.

Our ad focuses on the fact that the first thing people notice is your face – which is approximately eye level to anyone looking at you. So if people invest so much into their shoe selection, why wouldn’t they put as much consideration into their eyewear selection and make a good lasting impression with their eyes using an awesome pair of glasses. Because sometimes, all it takes to turn people off is a single look. The first glance, maybe the first three seconds, can make or break relationships that follow since first impressions are often nearly impossible to undo. And in most cases, people make their first impression just by looking at the face and more particularly the eyes. As an eyewear company, we couldn’t emphasize enough the importance of glasses, not only because of sight, but also because they can completely change the image you create for yourself.

They say our eyes are the windows to our soul. Our eyes don’t lie, they always reveal truth, and they show hints of our personality. Hence, there is no better way to impress someone than to direct their attention to your eyes. And what more perfect way to show your personality? A good pair of eyewear that fits your vision needs, personality, and face shape is all you need to create a fantastic first impression.

It’s not the feet but it’s the face that we see first thing when we meet a person. Next would be clothes, then shoes, and lastly, scent. It’s not a luxurious pair of shoes or newly pedicured feet that makes a person stand out at first glance, it’s the glasses. When a person is perfectly styled with an awesome pair of eyewear, the glasses can give them the confidence to meet people face to face maintaining good eye contact and making a great impression.

So what do you think? What Do People Look At First, Your Feet or Your Face?

Eye Care For You: Take Your Refraction Eye Exam from The Best Opticians in LA

August 23rd, 2018 | Posted in Guide | No Comments

Our eyes are greatly affected by certain health conditions and the lifestyle we live by. In most cases, we often take our eyes for granted not knowing that when you are working on a computer, traveling, or simply taking a nice sunbath, your eyes are working non-stop and can be damaged from these activities. The most common eye problems include blurry vision, blind spots, halos, and floaters. These problems can be caused by various factors which include health conditions like diabetes, body aging, damage to the eye itself, or by a medicine you’re taking. Protecting your sense of sight is a very crucial thing you have to do to maintain your quality of life. And one way is to take a refraction eye exam from the best Opticians in LA.

Get Your Eyes Checked Regularly

As they always say, prevention is better than cure. According to the American Optometric Association or AOA, everyone needs to get their eyes checked every year or two especially after the age of 60. Don’t wait far too long before deciding to get an eye exam such as refraction eye exam. We often don’t notice the little changes in our eyes until conditions have progressed. Get your eyes checked regularly to detect abnormalities early enough to treat and to avoid serious eye damage. Especially if you notice any changes in your vision, you have to have it checked by an eye care professional immediately. Only an eye care professional can detect and identify eye problems like diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma. Have a regular physical exam as well to check diseases that can cause eye problems like diabetes and high blood pressure. If left untreated, these diseases may cause severe problems to your eyesight.

Symptoms to Watch

The following are the most common symptoms that one should be totally aware of. Even if they are temporary, you should always see your eye doctor immediately if you experience any of these:

  • Double vision
  • Partial vision loss
  • Total vision loss
  • Red and painful eye
  • If you have a shade in your field of vision
  • Blind spots or halos in your vision
  • Any injury to the eyes
  • Trouble seeing objects in your vision
  • Trouble seeing when reading or during at night
  • Blurry sight of objects that are far away
  • Itchy eyes
  • Fluid in the eyes
  • Trouble identifying colors

Optometrist or Ophthalmologist?

Having your eyes checked regularly is simply the best way to prevent, detect or treat any of these symptoms at an early stage. When you decide that it’s time to get your eyes checked, make sure you are seeing the right eye care professional to cater to your needs.

Do you ever wonder what is an Optometrist? What is an Optician? Or whether to go to an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist? Non-medical practitioners commonly don’t know these terms. If you’re as curious too, we’ll break down the difference between the three.

What is an Optometrist? Optometrists are healthcare professionals who examine your eyes and diagnose diseases. They are the ones who will prescribe your glasses, contact lenses, and medicine for your eye disease.

Opticians, on the other hand, are technical practitioners who design and fits corrective lenses to correct a patient’s vision. They dispense and distribute eyeglasses but they do not diagnose eye problems. An optician is the lens and frame expert, keeping up with continuing education on the latest technologies and lens designs, as well as new frame materials, and having the training in fashion and styling for proper eyewear shape and fit. They are kind of like the pharmacist of the vision world… while an optometrist creates your prescription, the optician is the specialist to fill your lenses – to craft the perfect lenses into the perfect frame.

Lastly, Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who diagnose, treat, and perform surgeries related to eye problems. They are who optometrists will refer you to if they see signs of serious eye conditions. Ophthalmologists can also perform routine comprehensive eye exams, like optometrists, to provide you with a prescription for your spectacle lenses.

Refraction Eye Exam

A refraction eye exam is the portion of a comprehensive eye exam that is specific to figuring out the proper eyeglass prescription to be prescribed. A refraction eye exam usually includes an eye test where you look at a chart 20 feet away through a tool called a phoropter. Doctors use this test to obtain your eyeglass prescription where they move lenses varying in strengths in front of your eyes. This test helps the doctor detect eye problems such as myopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.

Smart Vision Lab Technology

Technology has indeed changed our lives in many aspects and optometry is not an exemption. As technology advances, medicine has kept up and used these resources to improve medical practice providing a more efficient and higher standard of care. Gone are the days where you have to go out of your way to an optometry and go through eye tests which could take up to an hour to complete just to get a new pair of glasses. Now, with the help of technology and telemedicine, you can get a refraction within 5 minutes.

Unlike going to an Optometrist, with Smart Vision Lab Technology, patients can obtain an eyewear prescription within 5 minutes with this telemedicine exam without a need for an on-site doctor. While this is convenient to quickly update your prescription and get new spectacles, it is only the refraction portion of a comprehensive eye exam – it does not include the health portion of the eye exam such as glaucoma check, dilation, etc. This exam aims to increase access to a more convenient, less complicated, and inexpensive vision care leveraged by technology and innovation. But it does not replace the very important benefits of a comprehensive eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist for health purposes.

Where to Get Examined?

There are numerous optical clinics making use of the Smart Vision Lab technology. Alexander Daas Optique, located in the heart of Larchmont Village, is the top eyewear destination in Los Angeles. Trained opticians and eyewear stylists pair luxurious eyewear designs and adopt the latest Smart Vision Lab Technology to provide the most simple, pleasant experience for customers. At Alexander Daas, you can get examined within 5 minutes and get styled in a frame that fits your face shape.

The Alexander Daas Optique store location in Larchmont Village, Los Angeles, California, down the street from Paramount Studios.

Using the SVOne, an ultraportable autorefractor device powered by Smart Vision Lab Technology, opticians at Alexander Daas can capture the wavefront map of the eyes determining a patient’s refractive error. SVOne is unmatched with its superior technology called wavefront aberrometry that allows the device to measure more accurate refractive errors comprehensively with 40% more precision, while getting results twice as fast, compared to traditional corneal autorefractors. Compared to a traditional approach, this technological advantage with SVOne produces more accurate and instant result for patients. Because of its cloud capabilities, customer feedback is also much easier to utilize to begin the prescription fulfillment process. All of the data is sent to a team of off-site Ophthalmologists and Optometrists that review the data and finalize a prescription. The result – an accurate prescription with a quick smooth process allowing you to get your new glasses faster with less effort on your part.

Tips for Healthy Eyesight

Between routine visits, it is important to take initiative and take the essential steps to help maintain or improve your vision:

  • Regular Exercise. According to studies and as suggested by the AOA (American Optometric Association), regular exercise like a simple walk in the park or even at home can reduce the risk of age-related eye degeneration by up to a shocking 70 percent.
  • Protect your eyes from the harmful UV light. Always bring your sunglasses outdoors and wear them during the daytime. Choose sunglasses that can give 100% protection to your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays. This can help reduce the risk of having cataracts, pinguecula and other eye problems.
  • Take regular breaks when facing the computer. Whether it is work, social media, watching movies online, or other tasks that mostly involve your eyes, always have a moment to take a break by closing your eyes. Wear your glasses if you have anti-reflection specs. Do not just keep your eyeglasses inside your pocket and most especially, do not just forget and leave them at home. Many people develop low to moderate loss of vision because of forgetfulness. You can also purchase an eyewear necklace to remember your glasses and keep them in their best shape (goodbye to the days of resting your eyeglasses or sunglasses on your head and stretching your eyewear and their temples).
  • Most importantly, eat a balanced and healthy diet. Studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids from eating fish and antioxidants obtained from eating a healthy diet consisting of at least 5 servings of fruits and green vegetables can help reduce the risk of having cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye-related problems. Getting adequate nutrients by supplementing your diet with eye vitamins may also help keep your eyes healthy.

All in all, achieving healthy eyesight simply requires a proactive approach. Make use of these tips and you’ll likely be one step ahead to having healthy and clear vision. And don’t forget to get your eyes checked. Take your refraction eye exam from the best opticians in Los Angeles. Choose an optical clinic that uses the latest Smart Vision Lab Technology like Alexander Daas in Los Angeles for convenience and to make sure your prescription is up to date. They can provide you with an on-site vision exam within about 5 minutes and update your prescription glasses, contact lenses, or sunglasses. But remember, this is only to supplement your once-a-year or every-two-year comprehensive eye exam with an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist where your full eye health is checked. Interested in a fun fact? This is the same technology used for LASIK surgeries and many NASA partnered telescopes!

Independent and luxury Italian eyewear line, TAVAT, announces DAAS LUXURY OPTICS, the house of Alexander Daas Eyewear, as new agent for US distribution.

DAAS LUXURY OPTICS and TAVAT Eyewear announced today that they have partnered for the exclusive distributorship of TAVAT eyewear across the United States.

Hand crafted among the foothills of the Dolomites in Northern Italy, TAVATfeatures unique technologies with the Tactile and Ex-Cam hinges, and state of the art melanin lenses.

“We are eager to deepen TAVAT‘s presence across the USA, bringing unique Italian elements to the marketplace which are not only fashionable and functional, but provide superior, unparalleled protection with unique hinges and Melanin technology,” says Alex Feldman, CEO of Daas Luxury Optics.

TAVAT Alexander Daas

The Tactical hinge represents luxury – traditional quality, refined workmanship, and honors authentic Italian style, characterized by minimal design, magnificent beauty, and most importantly, originality.

Nominated for it’s innovative technology in Silmo d’Or awards in Paris, 2010, frames developed with the iconic EX-CAM patented and trademarked hinge guarantee a high-tech mechanical precision in the opening-closing action.  Collections featuring these hinges alongside TAVAT Lens Technology (TLT) melanin + polar lenses include TAVAT’s Airman line, made from medical stainless steel.

TAVAT Alexander Daas

Melanin Lenses in TAVAT Sunglasses

TAVAT Lens Technology (TLT) features Melanin lenses to improve visual performance and long-term eye protection. Melanin, a naturally occurring pigment found throughout the human body serves to protect against sunlight damage, by filtering Ultraviolet (UV) and High Energy Visible (HEV) light, better known as “Violet-Blue light”. According to research coming out of leading institute for eye research, over the last 40 years, blue rays seem to quicken the development of AMD more than other rays of solar spectrum, and recommends that sunglasses protect against both blue/violet and UV light.

TAVAT’s sunglass lenses are infused with a synthetic melanin to provide the ultimate in eye protection, improving clarity and enhancing contrast, without any color distortion. Inspired by the natural defenses of the human body against the sun, the synthetic melanin acts in the same way as natural melanin, as a shield against UV rays and harmful violet-blue light (HEV), providing higher protection and enhanced performance.

DAAS LUXURY OPTICS also distributes ALEXANDER DAAS EYEWEAR.

Interview with Alexander Daas at the Alexander Daas Eyewear Showroom in downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter on KUSI Good Morning San Diego with reporter Mike Castellucci.

Three separate segments were aired and you can see them all in this video.

Alex discusses the Alexander Daas Philanthropy program where a portion of sales from authorized opticians and optometrists goes to various charities of their choosing.

He reviews the collection and goes over the emphasis of the eye glasses being the perfect solution for smaller faces / petite faces / small PD since the collection has an emphasis on smaller shapes so adults don’t have to wear kids frames. And Mike is wowed by the Alexander Daas case which is fully collapsable and folds completely flat when not being used.

Mike also notes some of the celebrities wearing Alexander Daas including Sammy Hagar and Jenny McCarthy.

Alexander Daas Eyewear is available at independent high end optical boutiques and optometrists all across the nation. Visit https://alexanderdaas.com/store-locator to find an authorized optician near you.

The Alexander Daas Eyewear Showroom is located at 431 J St., San Diego, CA 92101.
