Alexander Daas is a modern eyewear house shaped by decades of optical craftsmanship — curating independent, contemporary eyewear from around the world, rooted in old-world opticianry. Since 1979, we have built a legacy of providing exceptional independent optometry, luxury eyewear styling, exclusive eyewear and leading lens technology.
We have independent optometrists and opticians on-site at five boutique locations throughout California, including Del Mar (San Diego), Larchmont Village (Los Angeles), Palo Alto, San Clemente (Orange County) and San Francisco. We partner exclusively with board-certified independent optometrists who specialize in comprehensive eye exams.
Elevate your everyday with luxury eyewear styles from iconic brands. At Alexander Daas Opticians, our eyewear styling services carry an individualized approach to every consultation. Our experienced opticians walk you through different eyewear styles, sizes, materials and shapes to ensure you find the best sunglasses and/or eyeglasses based on your lifestyle needs so you see clearly and feel great, and help determine the best types of lenses for your lifestyle and vision needs.
We believe great care cannot be hurried. That’s why every appointment is tailored to your unique needs.
Our independent optometrists provide comprehensive eye exams that go beyond a simple vision check. During your appointment, they'll screen you for common eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts. If you have any vision issues, they can also provide accurate prescriptions for reading glasses, nearsightedness or progressive lenses.
During an eye exam, our independent optometrists may use retinal imaging and diagnostic tools to take high-resolution images of your eyes. These images are used to detect diseases and accurately monitor common eye conditions. The three most common imaging modalities are fundus photography, corneal imaging, and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Are contact lenses a better fit for your lifestyle? Our independent optometrists can help with custom fittings and specialty lens prescriptions. Alexander Daas Opticians partners with Contacts Portal, a third party, to provide our clients with a source for the most competitive pricing on contact lenses.
If you notice a sudden change in vision, an infection, or any painful sensations in the eyes, don't wait. Our independent optometrists can also assist with eye emergencies and provide expert care to help prevent complications.
Myopia is commonly referred to as nearsightedness. Studies have shown its progression can be slowed with special eyewear, contact lenses, and/or eyedrops. If you have myopia, please consult one of our independent optometrists to discuss the best method to manage its progression. Myopia management is typically recommended at an early age to help prevent future complications such as retinal detachments and glaucoma.
Dry eyes can occur for a variety of reasons. Symptoms include redness, stinging, burning, and paradoxically watering of your eyes. If you have any of these symptoms, our independent optometrists can conduct a thorough dry eye evaluation to determine the cause of the discomfort. We offer tailored treatment plans including prescription eyedrops, amniotic membranes, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, and bipolar radiofrequency (RF) treatments.

Even if you have no issues with your eyesight, you should schedule regular eye exams with an independent optometrist at least once a year. Regular eye exams are an essential part of your overall wellness and can protect you from serious health issues. In some cases, an independent optometrist may detect early signs of health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
A prescription for glasses is typically valid for one year. The expiration date varies based on your age and specific eye needs.
